Amity, Danbury, Ridgefield, Hall, Staples, and New Milford are projected to finish first through sixth at the 2014 Connecticut High School State Open Boys Cross Country Championship at Wickham Park on Friday, October 31. The top six teams will advance to the New England Championship on Saturday, November 8, also held at Wickham Park this year. The top three teams are separated by less than 20 points, so it promises to be an exciting and close championship in which every runner and every place counts. Obviously there are many factors that will determine the actual outcome of the state championship, including weather, injuries, etc. In addition to the top six teams (7 runners each) advancing to New Englands, the top 25 individuals also advance.
The projection is based on the results from the various sectional / divisional races this past Saturday, October 25 at Wickham Park. Individuals at the State Open who are not members of a qualifying team are removed from team scoring. The projection was compiled by Josh Meier, former member of the Amity High School varsity cross country and track teams, and now competing as a freshman in college.
